1961年5月17日，原名为Eithne Ni Bhraonain的Enya生于爱尔兰，童年在爱尔兰西北部的Donegal县的Gweedore度过。长在音乐世家的Enya家中共有9个兄弟姐妹。除了排行中间的Enya外，家中还有4个女孩和4个男孩。一家人在音乐方面获奖甚多，并闻名于爱尔兰传统音乐圈。
从小便接受了良好的音乐教育的Enya在1979年离开家乡加入到了乐队Clannad（来自Gweedore的家庭“the family from Gweedore”的缩写）当中担任键盘手。在Clannad期间，Enya共参与了乐队两张专辑的录制。1982年，由于“自己不想再跟着乐队一直往流行方向发展”，Enya离开了Clannad乐队，开始个人发展。
在接下来的几年中，Enya的主要成绩就是和制作人Nicky Ryan其妻子Roma Ryan合作制作了BBC电视系列剧《The Celts》的原声大碟。这张动听的原声大碟使个人发展的Enya开始得到了各界的关注。在接下来的1988年，Enya和Ryan夫妇合作的第二张专辑《Watermark》一发行便在排行榜上势如破竹。专辑中的首支单曲《Orinoco Flow》很快就成为英国榜冠军单曲。《Watermark》也排在New Age专辑榜的第二位。本张专辑此后在全球共销售800多万张，至今的销量已达上千万张，一下打响了Enya的国际知名度。专辑此后并在14个国家都取得了白金销量。
1991年，Enya发行了在《Watermark》之后的另一张成功的专辑《Shepherd Moons》。这张专辑被誉为最好的NEW AGE大碟，也正是凭着这张大碟，恩雅在1992年第一次获得了格莱美最佳New Age专辑奖。1995年12月，Enya第四张专辑《Memory of Trees》出版。《Memory of Trees》成功打入美国榜前十，在发行后的第一年中狂卖了200万张并成为Enya第二张获得格莱美最佳New Age专辑的唱片。1997年，Enya发行首张个人精选集《Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya》。
在上张录音室专辑发行五年之后，《A Day Without Rain》于2000年面市。《A Day Without Rain》延续了上张录音室专辑《Memory of Trees》在美国的成功，勇夺Billboard 200专辑榜亚军，成为迄今为止Enya在美国打榜成绩最好的专辑。同时，《A Day Without Rain》也使Enya完成了个人的格莱美“帽子戏法”，再次获得2001年格莱美最佳New Age专辑。2002年，Enya为《Lord of the Rings》电影原声大碟创作了单曲《May It Be》并获得奥斯卡奖提名。2005年，44岁的Enya发行最新录音室专辑《Amarantine》。

台湾作家三毛说：“在台湾，只有3个女人适合穿波西米亚风格的大花裙，这三个女人就是三毛、潘越云和齐豫。”如今，3个女人中的一个已经离开人世，另一个几乎淡出歌坛，只有齐豫还在音乐路上上下求索，以独有的“齐式”风格诠释有诗有梦的心灵，演绎生命内质的华丽、唯美、落寞和淡然……

1978年，齐豫正式出道，当时完完全全是一个民歌歌手。很多年后——在齐豫和李泰祥的“天造之合”成为乐坛佳话后——人们常常假设，假若没有李泰祥，齐豫恐怕仅是个民歌歌手而已，是李泰祥帮助齐豫找到了属于自己的声音；假若没有齐豫，李泰祥那些“阳春白雪”也只能束之高阁，是齐豫缥缈的音质把李泰祥的“古典”演绎得完美无瑕。从《橄榄树》到《有一个人》，在齐豫和李泰祥的“声音”里，人们听到了幽淡与华丽同时兼备的最佳契合点，它既保留了民歌简朴的特点，又将民歌升华到古典唯美的境界，雅致到极点，雍容到极点。
谈齐豫很难绕开三毛。三毛曾说过她的生命中有两个好朋友：一个是天使，一个是埃及艳后，埃及艳后是潘越云，天使就是齐豫。这种感觉，在专辑《回声》中被表现得淋漓尽致。《回声》记录了作家三毛半生的故事——从不愉快的童年（《轨外》）、甜蜜感伤的初恋（《七点钟》），到苍凉吹风沙的沙漠（《沙漠》），直至孀居的寂寞悲苦（《孀》）和最后的旷达超然（《梦田》）。整张专辑的歌词由三毛亲自填写，齐、潘二人共同演唱，三毛同时也负责旁白部分。《回声》是继《橄榄树》之后，齐豫艺术生涯中的第二章经典唱片，随后，伴着三毛与世长辞，齐豫、潘越云和三毛的绝妙合作也成为经典中的经典绝唱。
在华语歌坛，齐豫可能是发行英文专辑最多的女歌手。从1987年第一张英文专辑“Stories”到1999年的“Cestlavie”，齐豫一共推出了八张英文唱片，并创下了华人歌手演唱英文歌曲的先河。和她的国语歌曲相同，齐豫的英文歌同样缥缈、婉美和充满诗意，同样带有古典艺术的民谣味道。
除英文专辑“Love of my life”（《藏爱的女人》）外，齐豫的英文歌曲大多是翻唱欧美经典老歌，但却唱出了自己的风格，以致于让听者很难再去关注谁是歌曲的原唱，甚至让大家误以为歌曲是专为她而做。拿“Stories”, “Unborn heart”, “Diamonds and rust”和“Angels, roses&rain”为例，歌曲似乎记载了齐豫做为女性所必经的整个生命历程——少女时对初恋的回忆，将做妈妈时的激动、喜悦和恐慌，而立之年对昔日恋情的再度审视（也许如钻石般闪亮，也许早已锈迹斑斑），单亲妈妈所拥有的诗一般的感伤……
都说齐豫的英文歌之所以成功，得于她扎实浑厚的口语功底，但大家似乎忽视了更为重要的因素——心灵感悟以及具有诗人特质的诠释；都说齐豫是中国的恩雅，缥缈空灵，但仔细听，你会发现，齐豫有恩雅所不能拥有的热情和深情，齐豫的歌有悲欢离合的人间故事，有满怀激情的渴望和信仰，有属于女人的敏感和细腻……齐豫的歌，无论是中文还是英文，都是绝佳的诗化艺术，无人能翻，无人敢翻。

齐豫的声音，依如中文歌里所体现出的“缥缈、婉美和充满诗意”，音色纯正，质感也很强，像一个游走于天上人间的精灵，把淡淡的忧伤、聪智的心态恰到好处的融为一体，那些歌词似乎也在随着音律在空中舞动。
